Overview

The Chancenkarte (Opportunity Card) is Germany's points-based residence permit launched under the 2024 Skilled Immigration Act. It allows non-EU citizens to enter Germany for up to a year to look for skilled employment — without needing a job offer in hand. You qualify by scoring at least 6 points on the official 6-criteria system (qualification, German skills, English skills, work experience, age, and prior connection to Germany). While on the card you can work part-time (up to 20 hours/week) and trial jobs for up to 2 weeks at a time. Once you secure qualified employment, the card converts into a full EU Blue Card or Skilled Worker visa.
